Mobile phones in school? Legal? Illegal?
The rules at my school are that you are-
You're not allowed to use your mobile phone in school hours 8.30 - 3.40 (including lunch times). Other schools in the area are allowed to.
If a teacher catches you with a phone, then they take it until the end of the day and make a note of it. On the 4th time you get caught using a mobile phone, the school take the phone off the student until a parent or guardian is able to come into school and pick it up.
Earlier this year I had my phone taken off me for a fourth time but got out of it as my parents weren't able to pick it up for another week after I got it taken off me so I got it back with some negotiation. Recently I've had my phone taken off me again for a 5th time, and the school won't give the phone back to me for 6 months..They don't state in the rules at all that this would happen and it came by surprise. My parents and I, of course are extremely angry bearing in mind I was caught sending 1 text to my mum, at lunchtime and I've had the phone taken off me for 6 months.
I respect the school rules and I know I disobeyed them but what do the school expect? Of course the children are going to use their mobile phones at lunch time in an ever growing technological world and at least I wasn't using it in lesson time.
I'm preparing to take further action about the matter, about how the school have no right to take the phone away from for 6 months? I was just wondering whether there is a law or anything covering personal possessions in school or where I stand in justifying myself to a teacher/headteacher?
Any helpful suggestions are greatly appreciated, thank you!
