How Long Does It Take When Ordering New Business Phone Lines?
Many Business Phone customers want to order new lines and are looking for information on what they need and how long it takes to get new phone lines installed.
Most Small Business in Australia run with PSTN Business Phone Lines. These are the same type of lines that are installed in residential applications. Another Term for this type of Telephone line is POTs or Plain Old Telephone service. The other types of Lines available are ISDN 2 and ISDN 10/20/30 Phone lines.
When ordering PSTN business phone lines services there are 3 basic types of charge levels in Australia. An in Place Line is an existing but disconnected Business Phone service that just requires reactivating at the exchange and this is the cheapest connection type. The next level of Business telephone connection is an In Place Line that requires a Technician Visit. This means Telstra reactivate the line at the exchange but for some reason the service requires a site visit. The third type is a New Business Phone Line Connection, which is an entirely new Telephone line.
Line Hunt allows Business Phone lines to hunt from one to the other when busy or unanswered and can be added to 2 or more PSTN Business Telephone Lines.
Connection time frames vary, but an In Place line will usually be 2-5 working days while and new Business Phone Line will typically take 3-10 working days in Metro areas. For new Business Telephone Lines in Regional areas usual add 1-2 days on these times and remote can add another 5-10 working days. Costs to install PTSN Business Phone lines are between $90 & $400 per line or can be free on 24 Month agreements.
ISDN 2 Business Phone lines come in pairs of 2 lines and can be added to in groups of 2 lines at a Time. ISDN 2 Telephone Line are digital lines, that when combined with a business PABX Phone system, provide greater functionality. Digital Phone lines also provide better voice quality than PSTN. Line Hunt can be added to ISDN 2 Phone lines but requires at least 2 X ISDN 2 services to function.
ISDN 2 normally takes 15 working days to install. Cost to install ISDN 2 is between $300 & $360 per ISDN 2 service, or can be free on 24-month agreements.
ISDN 10/20/30 is the larger Primary rate ISDN service that allows for 10, 20, or 30 Business Phone lines at a time. Larger companies that require 10 or more simultaneous calls taking place usually use ISDN 10/20/30 Phone lines.
ISDN 10/20/30 phone line installations can take 20-40 days with Powertel or 40-60 days with Telstra, as there is a comprehensive amount of work required to install these Business Phone Services.

What is the legal age to buy a home in the UK?
My daughter is 16 this year and was asking me what age she can legally buy an apartment and move out from home. She is not planning to - but has the cash in the bank to buy a small one bedroomed apartment nearby (Ł50000). I know it is 18 if she had to get a mortgage, but is it also 18 to buy for cash as I know she would have to pass credit checks to have phone line installed and for gas/electric accounts and as 18 is the minimum age to apply for credit would she be denied any utility accounts until she was 18? Would the accounts have to go in someone elses name until she was 18?
And before I get replies asking why she wants to move out at 16, she doesn't. It is just a general question. The thinking was that she could buy her own property as soon as possible while property it at its cheapest as I am sure property prices will start to rise soon, so now is a good time to buy, even if she buys then rents it out until she feels ready to move away from home and live alone.

What are the laws on recording people's conversations and/or tapping phone lines?
I have a suspicion that someone living in my house is recording conversations that are taking place and or has tapped the phone line. I want to know what my rights are.
Its not my mom and I am not saying anything that I regret. I stand behind anything that may be heard in my conversations. I just feel like this is a major invasion of privacy and I am ready to pursue legal action but I want to know what the laws are. S/N- I am in NJ.....

Netgear DSL Modem Model 6200 router setup?
ATT sends me Netgear DSL Modem Model 6200.
The DSl modem is actually a router with DHCP set up! After my computer connects to it, the IP address shows private 192.168.1.XXX.
This is NOT what I wanted. I use a linksys router to do my own DHCP and firewall settings. I do not want the modem to do this for me.
So the idea situation is for the modem to handle the phone line internet communication and let my router to handle firewall and DHCP. But since this modem is handling the DHCP part, I can not even hook my router to it! Otherwise it wont work....
Can anyone tell me how to connect/configure this modem with my router such that my router handles DHCP and firewall for my home network.
I used to have motorola cable modem internet. In previous setup, the cable modem does not have DHCP. I can use my router internet port to connect to the cable modem and everything works fine.
